Skydiving is all sorts of emotions for a variety of different people. It can be exciting, scary, freeing, or all of them at once. It’s an experience that I believe everyone should have because it pushes people above and beyond what they feel comfortable with and allows them to overcome or, at least, face their fear. If heights, flying, or jumping out of a flying plane from way up high don’t scare you, then you will at least get the biggest rush of excitement.
Storytime! When I was 14 years old, I went to a conference for youth where the speaker shared his experience with skydiving. Ever since that point, I knew that was something I wanted to try for myself. Fast-forward 5 years to the exact moment my friend and I were finally able to experience skydiving. We we’re so excited for the adventure we were about to embark on. We put on our harnesses, loaded into the airplane, and flew 13,000 feet up into the air. My friend, Kelsey, jumped first and then I was next! I scooted over to the doorway and stood on the edge of the plane as I overlooked the 13,000 feet of space between me and the ground, and then I jumped! The feeling was unlike anything I’d ever experienced before! My heart was beating so fast as a fell rapidly towards the earth below me and then the instructor informed me it was time to pull the parachute! After I did, the feeling totally shifted and it suddenly felt like I was flying. A calming sensation came over me and it was amazing just being able to float through the sky! We landed and I felt I’d accomplished something so special.

That’s my very condensed version of my experience skydiving! Check out this video of Will Smith’s experience.
To Let Go
One of the great things about skydiving is that you have to completely let go! Let go of your fears and let go of control. You put your trust in someone else or something else to deliver you safely to the ground and then take that moment to breathe in, reflect on, and experience the world around you. This might be an idea that feels a bit uncomfortable, but it’s healthy! Letting go and accepting what’s happening at the moment and forgetting about what is to happen, is an internal victory!
Conquer Your Fears
One of the best feelings in the world is when you are able to conquer your fears and overcome obstacles you never imagined you would. Skydiving is just one of those experiences that allows you to recognize just how much you are capable of doing. You can fly! Plus, you get major bragging rights 😉
If you haven’t tried skydiving yet, I 100% recommend you find a group of people and get your skydiving adventure scheduled.
Head to skydiveutah.com to book your appointment. It costs about $225, but if you want to save an extra $35, take a day off work and go on a Wednesday. They also offer video and photo packages starting at $70 to help you remember your experience (unfortunately, you are unable to bring your own video equipment for safety reasons). Wear comfortable clothes and keep in mind that it will be 30-40 degrees colder at jumping altitude, so you’ll want to dress accordingly. I’d recommend bringing more layers just in case! Have more questions. Check out their FAQ’s page here https://www.skydiveutah.com/faq.
